Liver and Kidney : combined Transplant

It happens only in India. Ganga Ram Hospital created a history that is never been happens in medical science. A team of 50 Members transplant liver and kidney simultaneously in a patients whose kidney were already damaged.

The combined kidney and liver transplant was performed by 50 doctors and paramedical staff from different departments of the hospital. They worked together in three different operation theaters and it was the first time that two live donors donated different organs.

 Ganesh Nehru, from California, was diagnosed with primary hyperoxaluria during his visit to india. His family approached to Ganaga Ram hospital, where surgeon agreed to take challenge. Hemlata, the mother of ganesh donate his kidney where as ganesh maternal uncle Mahesh donated a part of his liver.

 A Rs 20 lac surgery were performed on April 27.According to Dr Soni,"The liver transplant had to be managed without any support from patient's kidney as they were totally useless."
